Custom-made vs off the rack
We can generalize clothing in two categories.
One, custom-made clothes and two, Readymade off- the- shelf, fit for all sizes.
Let’s look at them both in their own perspectives.
Starting with custom clothes - it is a misconception that custom clothes are expensive.
I mean with time, competition has become more fierce, and as a result there are more tailors available now than they ever used to be some years ago and because of that over a period of time there are tailors who have stepped forward, offering attractive prizes & packages which are well worth, considering the fact that one has to pay so much for a brand which after all in the end is made not for a particular client, but for anyone that happens to fit those clothes.
The niche market is still there but as a result, it’s more accessible to almost everyone.
I am referring to our world of Customs Tailoring.
People have their clothes signature made for a reason because perfectly fitted clothes gives them
a certain satisfaction, a pleasure wearing it.
This is despite wearing an expensive branded ready-made suit one prefers custom tailored clothes over ‘Made to fit clothes ‘, no matter how expensive the brand.
In most cases what you will see, is that people who can afford expensive brands will invariably at one point custom make their clothes because it’s personalized and they know that they can’t beat the fit of these clothes over ready-mades.
It only goes to show that custom tailoring is unique in the world of garments.
With a little patience, one can easily walk into a custom tailor shop and get fitted for a suit and with proper care, can last him for a long time and best of all it is made to fit like a glove! The customer might even end up paying much less for custom clothes than a branded suit which might cost him let’s say, an arm and leg!
On the other hand, to be fair to ready-mades, if properly chosen offer their own value for the money except in these cases, one has to turn to recognized brand names which means they are very extremely expensive.
Though, I am not saying that it will fit the client perfectly like custom Dillard clothes but it does the job.
There are people who can walk into a store and come out with a perfect ready-made suit, which fits them very nicely, but these people are exceptions to the rule and not many around.
One must consider that if a person does not have the time when is in a rush then ready-made option is good because the customer does not have to go for fittings and wait for a while until it’s ready.
In the end, all I can say is that One Size Fits All concept is not my Cup of Tea and I say, thank you kind Sir but Custom clothes in the end are unbeatable!
